UFC 110 live results: Cro Cop vs. Perosh

Up first is the legendary Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. last-minute Australian replacement Anthony "The Hippo" Perosh at heavyweight.

Cro Cop's original opponent, Ben Rothwell, pulled out of the fight this week after coming down with some sort of ailment while in Australia. This is a pretty winnable fight for Cro Cop even if it weren't on short notice, and even taking into account that the Mirko Cro Cop we've seen lately isn't the stone cold killer he used to be.

Round 1: Perosh got a very nice hometown reaction during Bruce Buffer's introductions. Perosh tries early to close the distance while Cro Cop throws kicks and hands. Perosh gets the right leg and fights for a single leg takedown. Cro Cop successfully sprawls and breaks the attempt. Cro Cop stalks Perosh and hits a right-left combo, with the left sending Perosh into a backpedal. Perosh ties Cro Cop up, which doesn't go anywhere before Cro Cop forces the separation. Cro Cop still walking Perosh down and throwing hands, most of which are missing. Perosh shoots again and Cro Cop sprawls. Cro Cop lands a few punches on the ground before letting Perosh up. Perosh is busted open on the bridge of his nose. Perosh is still moving backward as Filipovic tries to get in close. Perosh shoots, Cro Cop sprawls. Cro Cop hammers at the side of Perosh's head a few times, then lets him up at the buzzer. 10-9 Cro Cop, who has yet to really bust out his famous head kicks.

Round 2: Perosh shoots, Cro Cop sprawls, Cro Cop hammers on Perosh's head for good measure. (Lather, rinse, repeat.) As they stand, Perosh mixes it up a little with a leg kick (checked) and some fists (nothing major lands). Another takedown attempt as Cro Cop sprawls and tenderizes Perosh's ribs and face with short punches. Neither fighter looks tremendous here, but Cro Cop is getting the upper hand consistently. Perosh with a very weak inside leg kick and a love-tap jab, leading to another stuffed takedown shot. This time Cro Cop ends up in Perosh's guard. Cro Cop lands a short elbow to Perosh's face, which explodes into a bloody mess. Referee Herb Dean stops the fight to examine the cut and it's nearly stopped, until Perosh convinces Dean that he can see and is ready to keep fighting. If his vision had been impaired by the blood, it would have been over. Perosh shoots, Cro Cop sprawls and ends the round by mincing Perosh's face with more short strikes. 10-9 Cro Cop, but it doesn't matter as the Octagonside doctors stop the fight between rounds. Cro Cop wins via TKO.

I'm not sure the Cro Cop we saw tonight would have been able to handle Ben Rothwell.

Winner: Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic defeats Anthony Perosh via TKO due to cut stoppage at 5:00 of Round 2.

UFC 110 live blog

We're back again this Saturday with a live round-by-round blog of the main card for UFC 110, headlined by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez in a heavyweight clash.

The blog will begin between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. ET with quickie undercard results, followed by complete details of each main-card bout as it happens live.

Here's the card:

  • Nogueira vs. Velasquez (Hwt.)
  • Wanderlei Silva vs. Michael Bisping (Mwt.)
  • Joe Stevenson vs. George Sotiropoulos (Lwt.)
  • Keith Jardine vs. Ryan Bader (Light Hwt.)
  • Mirko Cro Cop vs. Anthony Perosh (Hwt.)
  • Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski (Light Hwt.)
  • Chris Lytle vs. Brian Foster (Wwt.)
  • CB Dollaway vs. Goran Reljic (Mwt.)
  • James Te Huna vs. Igor Pokrajac (Light Hwt.)

Mirko Cro Cop was originally supposed to face Ben Rothwell . Rothwell pulled out of the fight this week after coming down with an ailment of some sort after arriving in Australia.

In Rothwell's place, Cro Cop now fights Perosh, an Australian fighter that is 0-2 in UFC bouts (lost to Christian Wellisch and Jeff Monson , both in 2006).

Also, Elvis "The King of Rock and Rumble" Sinosic pulled out of his fight vs. Chris Haseman with a hurt shoulder. That fight was completely scrapped due to the UFC not having enough time to find a replacement opponent for Haseman.

See you Saturday for the live blog.

UFC 103 live results: Cro Cop vs. Dos Santos

Mirko Cro Cop battles fellow heavyweight striker Junior Dos Santos next. Dos Santos is young and has yet to taste defeat in the UFC.

Dos Santos enters the arena to the Rocky theme. Cro Cop enters, of course, to "Wild Boys" by Duran Duran.

Round 1: Dos Santos has a mean look in his eyes. He rushes in quickly and puts Cro Cop against the fence but he doesn't actually land any strikes of note. They face off again and Dos Santos throws a quick right. Cro Cop throws a left head kick that gets blocked. Cro Cop ties up with Dos Santos briefly and Dos Santos uses the chance to unleash a barrage of close-range strikes. Cro Cop covers up, but the onslaught ends. Cro Cop with a body lock but he can't do anything with it. Uppercut by Dos Santos. Cro Cop ties up Dos Santos again and the Texas crowd starts chanting for Cro Cop. Cro Cop tries to throw Dos Santos to the ground with the body lock but it backfires and he briefly winds up beneath Dos Santos. He gets up quickly. Cro Cop with a left hook that seems to stun Dos Santos for a split second. Dos Santos is cut near his right eye. The round ends, and it's pretty even. Dos Santos is trying to be the aggressor but Cro Cop is doing the right things to defend, and doing damage in the process. 10-9 Cro Cop.

Round 2: Dos Santos with a right hand. Cro Cop with a leg kick, and on cue, Dos Santos assaults him with a flurry of fists. Cro Cop hangs in there and engages him, then body locks to regain control of the pace. Dos Santos with a nice uppercut. Uppercut by Dos Santos is countered by a right hook. Cro Cop swings and misses with that patented left high kick. Dos Santos with an uppercut and a right. Cro Cop looks to be tiring. They tie up and Cro Cop knees Dos Santos in the gut. Right hook by Dos Santos is ducked by Cro Cop. Dos Santos keeps trying for that uppercut, and I think Cro Cop has it scouted at this point. But he still may not be able to dodge it forever if he gets tired. Low blow by Cro Cop and the ref gives Dos Santos time to walk it off. Dos Santos with a big right hand. Cro Cop is now cut over his left eye. The round ends, and I score it 10-9 Dos Santos.

Round 3: Cro Cop with a nice left hand. And a left jab for good measure. Right uppercut by Dos Santos. A pair of Muay Thai knees by Dos Santos. Cro Cop with a left, Dos Santos answers with a right. Dos Santos is smacking Cro Cop around now with knees and fists. Cro Cop is hurt. In a strange finish, Dos Santos turns away from Cro Cop and celebrates. The referee (and the audience) seem to not realize the fight is over, until Cro Cop tells him he can't see. The referee waves it off. On the replay, Dos Santos smashed Cro Cop with a right uppercut to the eye socket, and you can see Cro Cop immediately grab that area with his hand.

Winner: Junior Dos Santos defeats Mirko Cro Cop via verbal submission due to strikes at 2:00 of Round 3.

UFC 99 live results: Cro Cop vs. Al Turk

Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic returns to the UFC, fighting Mustapha Al-Turk.

Al-Turk is entering the arena right now to "Lose Yourself" by Eminem. And Cro Cop, of course, comes out to "Wild Boys" by Duran Duran.

Round 1: Cro Cop gets a very nice response from the fans in Germany, many of whom may have traveled from Croatia to see the fight. Al-Turk with a nice overhand right backs Cro Cop up a little. Leg kick by Al-Turk. He goes for a takedown and Cro Cop shakes it off. Leg kick by Al-Turk, and he misses with another big right. Cro Cop with a straight left. Al-Turk is going for the overhand right way too much, telegraphing it badly. Cro Cop with a left jab. Al-Turk throws another wild overhand right and misses again. Cro Cop hurts him with a left hand and moves forward with a barrage of fists. Al-Turk goes down, but he's not out. Cro Cop lets him stand up. Al-Turk misses another swing and Cro Cop finishes him off with more fists. Nice return win for Cro Cop.

The replay shows that on one of the punches Cro Cop threw, his fingers caught Al-Turk in the right eye. He immediately covered his face with his hands after the eye poke, but the referee didn't see it. Still, Al-Turk wasn't doing much to suggest the fight would have ended any differently without the errant eye injury.

Winner: Mirko Cro Cop defeats Mustapha Al-Turk via TKO due to strikes at 3:06 of Round 1.
